Mount Pleasant (Post Code: 2519)

A small tightly held community in the Local Government area of Wollongong, Mount Pleasant comprises an area of approximately 1 sq km and is bounded by Mount Ousley, Balgownie and Keiraville. A premier suburb, many properties are quality homes on large blocks, surrounded by trees and overlooking tranquil natural surrounds making it ideal for relaxed living yet close to the city centre.  Placed on the verdant northern side of Mt Keira, it is home to the Illawarra Rhododendron Gardens on Parrish Avenue, a 13 hectare garden and park containing hundreds of azaleas and rhododendrons.

The village of Mount Pleasant was developed after the Mount Pleasant Coal and Mining Co. opened in 1861. The land was owned by John Dingwall who initially named it after another estate which belonged to him.

In 2006, the population was 1,312, with the predominant age group being between 40-49 years old.  The largest sector of the workforce are those in full time employment, working as professional and the majority driving to work by car.  There are approximately 450 swelling, with 96% being houses of which 53.1% are fully owned and 36.9% being financed.  92% of the properties are owner occupied.  85% of the population and households in Mount Pleasant are married couples.  Local facilities encompass 4 parks, a child care centre, primary school and a club.
