West Wollongong (Post Code: 2500)

West Wollongong is a western suburb of the coastal city of Wollongong.  Primarily a residential area, it has a shopping strip offering a music shop, electric goods store, carpet store, restaurants, a chemist, florist, several petrol stations and a chicken shop. An area of approximately 5.9 sq km, West Wollongong is bordered by Mangerton, Figtree and Keiraville.

In 2006 the population was 4,716 persons with the majority being in the 20 – 29 years old age group.  The largest sector of the population is not in the labour force but those who do work do so in a professional capacity with most traveling to work by car.  Of the 1,911 dwellings, 64% are single family homes.  37.7% of these properties are fully owned and 27.7% are being financed, with 67% being owner occupied. 65% of the population are married couples.
